The accession consists of Dr. Inman's master negative file for all images taken by or for Dr. Inman during the years 1948-1984. The images are described in photo accessions books. The images were numbered sequentially beginning in 1948 and continuing until 1970. Beginning in 1971, negatives are numbered sequentially within the year they were produced (e.g. 71.1 is the first image produced in 1971). Images include graphs and charts for Inman lectures, photographs of beaches and coastal areas, photographs of oceanographic instrumentation, photographs of coastal processes staff at work. Most images are black and white. Most negatives are either 4 x 5 sheet negatives or 35mm film. Many images appear to be missing as the numerical sequence is frequently interrupted. Dr. Inman retains a series of copy prints and contact prints for the collection. Some of these are labelled on verso in DLI's hand. This may provide supplementary identification of images.
